Don’t underestimate the impact of a smile and simple hello.
The Roosevelt Greeter Initiative ensures that high school students start their school day with a warm welcome. Volunteers are stationed at entrances for about 15 minutes each morning to smile and nod. That’s it.
Volunteers do need to pass a district issued background check before participating in the initiative.

Join Portland Public Schools staff and community volunteers in enhancing and beautifying our buildings and grounds.
Most Project Community Care activities involve landscaping, such as pulling weeds, painting and spreading bark dust.
All ages are welcome.
Tools and supplies will be provided; individuals may also bring their own.
Typically held the last Saturday before school begins in late August, 9am to noon, with community bbq to follow.
