Community Collaboration opportunities

This is one of those “it takes a village” kind of projects- and we know that faith communities, organizations, and neighbors in North Portland can be particularly awesome at working together to share the load. This winter we get the chance to do just that. Check out the details below and then make plans with your family, your congregation, your work group, or your circle of friends to show up in the coming months.   For questions or ideas of other ways to serve connect with our Volunteer Coordination Team at warming@allonecommunity.org

SUNDAY MORNING Set-up

Once a week the sleeping space transforms into another type of sanctuary- the kind with chairs and church folks- and the shelter staff could use a hand moving cots into storage, setting up chairs, sweeping up, and scrubbing things down.

We’ll provide all cleaning supplies and instructions. Focus areas include two single-user bathrooms, a (tiny) kitchen and common gathering area, and moving cots out of and chairs into the sleeping space.

When: Sunday mornings, 6 AM- 8AM
*note that every 4th Sunday includes a Community Meal as well

WEEKDAY Clean-Up

Rise with the sun and come scrub and sweep for an hour so that shelter staff can spend time forming meaningful relationships with participants and ultimately, connect them with needed services and permanent housing opportunities.

We’ll provide all cleaning supplies and instructions. Focus areas include two single-occupancy bathrooms, a (tiny) kitchen and common gathering area, and the sleeping space.

When: Tuesday and Friday mornings, 6 AM- 7AM

Community Meals

Isolation can be debilitating- for any of us. For the participants and even the staff of the North Portland Winter Shelter these twice monthly community meals not only provide an extra boost of nutrition, but vital, genuine human connection too!  So we gather, we eat, we share stories, and work side-by-side to serve one another.

When: Community Dinners- 2nd Sunday evenings, 6 PM- 8 PM
Community Breakfasts- 4th Sunday mornings, 6 AM- 8 AM

Thanks to a very generous community partnership with Blue Sky Eco Laundry/Lavendria this year we expect to able to keep the cost of regularly laundering all participant blankets MUCH lower than past efforts. Do Good Multnomah’s budget includes paying a portion of this expense, however we are excited to offer the community the chance to step-up to help round out the cost of this investment of time, supplies, and resources.

Be sure to give Carl and his staff at Blue Sky a high-five and thank them for being such a great community partner!
